International Symposium
on LifeChips 2006

May 16–17, 2006

Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center of the National Academies
of Science and Engineering

UC Irvine,
Irvine, CA, USA

The International Symposium on LifeChips will take place at the Beckman Center of the National Academies located at University of California, Irvine, USA from May 16–17, 2006 in conjunction with the symposium "Prosperity Through Technology" to be held from May 15–16, sponsored by the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, University of California, Irvine, USA. Co-sponsored by the INRF Program in LifeChips and UC Discovery.

The one-and-a-half day symposium will cover four topical areas:

1. Nano/micro technologies for cancer (speakers)
2. Bio-microelectromechanical systems (Bio-MEMS) for medical implant devices (speakers)
3. Array technologies for genomic, proteomic, and cellular screening/diagnosis (speakers)
4. Other topics including Bio-materials and Electronic Devices for Medical Engineering (posters)

The symposium meeting will start on Tuesday (May 16) morning with series of talks from invited eminent academic and industrial researchers from US, Japan, and Korea. We will also have poster presentations of latest research results in this area. The day will be concluded with a dinner and a keynote address. On Wednesday (May 17), the symposium will have a half-day meeting featuring a second poster session and a series of invited talks, concluding with lunch, leaving the afternoon free for the attendees to interact and continue discussions.

We anticipate that the meeting will stimulate discussion, interest, and collaboration among researchers from technology and life science backgrounds. This will be a great opportunity to exchange ideas and learn about research that may have unique application to your own area of research.

Individuals interested in or actively engaged in LifeChips research are encouraged to attend this symposium and to submit poster papers. Please submit your 100-word abstracts by May 6, 2006, or click on the abstracts link below. A corresponding author should provide the contact information (name, affiliation, e-mail address, phone and fax number).
